There is no single answer to the question, “What is the best WordPress hosting provider?” other than, “It depends.” There are over 500 million WordPress websites, and hosting companies target small slices of a very large pie. Two companies can be called WordPress hosts, but have little in common.
That’s the case with IONOS and Pressable, two managed WordPress hosting providers built for different audiences. If you’re trying to decide whether Pressable or IONOS is right for your WordPress sites, we’re here to help you decide. In this article, we’ll explore the services each offers, their technology and platform, and the type of WordPress user they work best for.
What is Pressable?
Pressable is a managed hosting platform focused entirely on WordPress and WooCommerce. It provides a streamlined environment for agencies, ecommerce merchants, and businesses with complex, high-traffic sites. Pressable serves customers running professional WordPress sites and includes support and tooling geared toward businesses that rely on WordPress as part of their core operations.
What Is IONOS?
IONOS is a web-hosting provider that offers a broad range of hosting-related services, including domains, email, shared hosting, and WordPress hosting. Its WordPress plans are intended to give individuals and small businesses an accessible way to run standard WordPress sites without managing technical infrastructure.

Hosting Platform
Pressable
Pressable’s hosting plans are based on WP Cloud, a cloud platform built by Automattic for high-performance WordPress hosting. Each site runs in an isolated container with its own execution environment. The platform distributes workloads across a geographically redundant cloud architecture and assigns compute resources at the site level.
WP Cloud’s design provides process isolation, consistent performance, and reliable failover in the event of issues. It also allows Pressable to provision additional capacity instantly because containers can move to more capable nodes without downtime. The result is a hosting environment that can scale rapidly to maintain consistent performance even under heavy load.
IONOS
IONOS’ managed WordPress hosting is based on the company’s shared hosting framework. WordPress installations run as PHP applications inside a multi-tenant environment alongside other customers. The underlying stack, including the web server and PHP runtime, is shared across accounts. Isolation is limited to account-level permissions rather than container-level separation.
The shared hosting model offers a predictable baseline performance for small to moderate workloads, but it doesn’t provide the same level of dedicated compute, isolation, or elasticity found in Pressable’s cloud architecture.
Hosting Resource Allocation
Pressable
Pressable provides generous and scalable compute resources for WordPress sites. On Signature plans, sites start with five dedicated PHP workers and five virtual CPUs on WP Cloud. Each worker receives 512 megabytes of RAM. The number of workers can auto-scale during traffic spikes so that sites can exceed the plan’s baseline capacity without manual intervention.
Premium hosting plans start with 10 virtual CPUs, each of which also have 512 megabytes per worker, but there is an option to raise the memory per worker to two gigabytes. Premium sites can scale vertically to more than 100 CPU cores during peak demand. Because of the way WP Cloud is designed, resource allocation is isolated per site, so growth doesn’t affect other customers and performance remains stable as workloads increase.
IONOS
IONOS assigns resources to each WordPress site through what it calls Performance Levels. Higher tiers increase the size of the shared PHP resource pool a site can use. The pool includes the total RAM available for all PHP processes running your site and the memory available to each process. IONOS plans do not specific CPU allocations.
A site runs inside a shared-hosting environment alongside other customers. The higher levels simply allow more PHP workers to run at once before hitting a ceiling. The IONOS platform works reasonably well for steady-traffic sites, but it has practical constraints. Resource availability depends on the shared server, the size of the PHP pool limits concurrency, and performance can flatten during busy periods because the platform cannot add compute capacity automatically.
Resilience and Redundancy
Pressable
WP Cloud is designed for high availability. Every site runs in a container replicated across more than one data center. If a node fails, the site can be quickly spun up on a different node with minimal interruption. Because containers can be moved and rescheduled, the same mechanism that supports failover also supports seamless auto-scaling. Pressable’s high availability resilience allows it to offer a 100% uptime guarantee.
IONOS
IONOS also offers a form of redundancy in that data is mirrored between more than one data center. That protects sites against local storage or data center failures and improves durability. But WordPress sites don’t run in isolated containers, and they aren’t distributed across nodes. Data is protected in the event of a failure, but unlike Pressable, IONOS can’t promise uninterrupted availability. In fact, IONOS does not offer a binding service level agreement.
