We’ve released an update for the Schema Plugin version 1.2.7.1, which introduces schema.org ItemList type, and includes important bug fixes.

It’s highly recommended to update to Schema Premium version 1.2.7.1 release immediately since the older version of the plugin triggers an error when saving or editing a post.

For the ItemList structured data, it’s not fully complete yet due to the nature of this schema.org type, which requires all linked pages to have its own valid structured data. However, we’ve added it to make it easier for those who have list posts to extend it.

We will also extend the ItemList type, and figure out a simple way to make use of it in our future Schema plugin updates.

Schema Properties to show in REST API

In the last 1.2.5 update, we’ve updated ACF PRO to the latest version so we can bring the possibility of introducing property fields to the WordPress REST API.

Now, you can enable all structured data properties saved in post meta to show in REST API within the plugin settings, under the Advanced tab.

Use Existing Structured Data

Now, you can use the structured data generated on any page as a static source of structured data for any property of your liking.

In the Schema > Types > Your Type configuration page, and for any property you can select:

• Use Existing Structured Data

Then select the page or post you would like to be the source of this structured data.

New Custom Structured Data

This is a pretty useful feature and comes handy if you ever tried to override a property value with some more detailed structured data.

Then, when you edit your page, you will see an input field to insert your custom structured data.

Note: Make sure you always insert a valid JSON-LD structured data in this field to avoid errors.

WordPress Audio Block Structured Data

In this release 1.2.6, we introduced support for the WordPress Audio Block.

You can enable this setting from Schema > Settings > Schemas > Embeds settings.

So, if this feature is enabled; whenever you insert an Audio Block, the plugin will automatically generate structured data from the audio file and include it in the final structured data output.

Extended ImageObject Structured Data

We’ve also extended the ImageObject structured data with these properties:

• headline
• alternativeHeadline
• uploadDate
• dateModified
• encodingFormat
• contentUrl

So, now… your images will have more detailed structured data.

We are excited to announce our first plugin update in 2021 for Schema Plugin version 1.2.3, which introduces a better performance, Combined Structured Data, Voice Search Optimization, and other useful features.

Enhanced Performance

In earlier releases than version 1.2.3; the plugin used to do a lot of digging into a website, hence several extra database queries to bring the required structured data automatically and make it part of the schema.org markup output.

To reduce database queries and enhance performance; we’ve made several changes to allow caching some of the values that plugin used to generate it each time a page is called by a visitor.

Now, the plugin can pull the cached data with less database queries, which enhanced the plugin’s overall performance.

Support for Combined Structured Data

In the past releases of Schema plugin; there were a couple of ways to construct the structured data markup output to make possible to include multiple schema.org types on the same web page.

So, when you enable two schema.org types that targets the same page or content, the plugin outputs both schema.org markups in the source code of that specific page.

in other words; it generates two separate sets of markup, one for Google to choose from, or maybe combine them in search results.

On version 1.2.3; we’ve added a new way to mix structured data types, it’s called Combined!

Combined Structured Data is a simple setting that can be found under the Advanced Settings tab, it allows you to switch between structured data types supported by the plugin.

The plugin is set to Schema Markup Type: Separate by default, but if you select type Combined, you can get schema markup that looks like this:

When you enable two different types, for example Product and SoftwareApplication on the same targeted content, you get a combined single set of structured data with all properties joined.

That’s only one of the exciting features that came to version 1.2.3 of Schema plugin.

Support for Speakable Structured Data

This version introduces introduces speakable structured data, which allows you to identify sections within an article or webpage that are best suited for audio playback using text-to-speech (TTS).
