Optical drives
An optical drive is used to play, and sometimes burn, CDs and DVDs. Some Mac computers come with built-in optical drives; you can also use an external optical drive (for example, an Apple USB SuperDrive.)
To find out whether your Mac can burn CDs and DVDs and what types it can burn, use About This Mac.
Choose Apple menu > About This Mac, click Storage, then look at the entry for your optical drive.
