Easy! I just channel my inner chameleon, but instead of changing colors, I switch communication styles faster than a caffeinated squirrel on roller skates For the data geeks? I bring out my inner spreadsheet ninja, armed with charts sharper than a sushi chef’s knife For the big-picture dreamers? I paint grand visions with words so vivid, they feel like they’re starring in their own motivational movie trailer. For the skeptics? I deploy my secret weapon: the “But what if…” dance - a graceful combo of facts, empathy, and a sprinkle of humor to disarm even the toughest critics. In the end, it’s all about reading the room, mixing a cocktail of clarity, empathy, and a dash of wit - because who said stakeholder meetings can’t be a little fun?

Managing stakeholders means adapting without losing focus. I use a communication funnel to map roles, and assign tone, message, and channel. One core message stays consistent, everything else is tailored to connect. This approach has helped me align sales, marketing, product, procurement, buying teams, finance and IT many times: 1. across countries, structures, and organizational levels 2. around the highest strategic goals or the most operational new procedures

I try to challenge status quo but with a smile on my face and lots of positive attitude! As an avid leader of digital collaboration I kindly ask if my stakeholders would like some suggestions on how we could collaborate better and on their own terms. This usually works to avoid the dark deep corners of an Outlook email inbox. Using well-structured channels and teams, with clear tabs linking to planners and notebooks, we can often transition to a more interactive type of communication. Most organizations are stuck in the "push phase", where I always inspire to go to the "pull phase", where members get their information themselves, and if possible reach for the "interactive phase" where we use modern, transparent tools to interact.

Having been through this, let me tell you this first, adapting communication for a diverse team means being audience-aware. Start by 1. Understanding each stakeholder’s preferences—some prefer detailed emails, others short updates or visual dashboards. 2. Adjust tone and language to match cultural and professional norms, ensuring clarity and respect. 3. Practice active listening and invite feedback to foster inclusivity. 4. Avoid jargon unless the group shares technical expertise. 5. Use multiple channels—video, chat, reports—to reinforce key messages. Most importantly, remain empathetic and flexible, tailoring your approach to ensure everyone feels heard, valued, and aligned toward shared goals.

Great points. The simple way I look at it is, firstly, figure out what they care about most and where there focus is (cost, speed, flexibility etc…) From there match the format to their style (some prefer slides and detail, others just want a quick more conversational call). Most importantly keep it simple, doesn’t matter how complex the topic is you want to simplify it, focus in on what they care about most and ensure there is an exchanged value there. Everyone’s got a different lens, so meeting them where they are makes all the difference.

As a CQ® Certified Facilitator, I often lean into the 4 capabilities of Cultural Intelligence (CQ) to guide this process: - Drive: Be genuinely curious about your team’s communication preferences. If possible, introduce a CQ assessment when the team forms or new members join. - Knowledge: Learn what matters. Ask thoughtful questions. Understand cultural norms that shape how people speak, listen, and respond. - Strategy: Use those insights to build a communication plan, not one-size-fits-all, but tailored for clarity and connection. - Action: Adjust your content, tone, and delivery style. Consider verbal and nonverbal cues across cultures. Check-in: Ask your team if it’s working. Be open to feedback. Adapt. That’s how inclusion grows

In a diverse team of stakeholders, effective communication is essential for fostering collaboration and achieving shared goals. Tailoring your message to accommodate varying perspectives not only enhances understanding but also builds trust and rapport among team members. As a senior leader, I emphasize the importance of active listening and adaptability in communication, which can significantly improve stakeholder engagement and drive successful outcomes in complex projects. By recognizing and valuing each stakeholder's unique contributions, you empower your team and create an environment conducive to innovation and problem-solving.

LOVE this question. In my work with nonprofits, community orgs, and companies exploring sustainability, I’ve learned that adapting your communication style isn’t just for clarity— it’s for connecting different contexts. I'm often trying to bring grassroots leaders, corporate sponsors, creatives and technical teams together. One thing that’s helped? Starting with shared values, not just goals. From there, we are better able to tailor the “how”— simplifying frameworks, localizing examples or shifting formats. Adaptability, in this sense, is not about being everything to everyone but rather meeting people where they are so you can build something better together.
