When I write SEO copy, I always remind myself, humans first, algorithms second. Start by really knowing your audience—their struggles, goals, and the language they use daily. Then, weave those insights into your copy. Share stories they’ll see themselves in or address their pain points directly. Don’t be afraid to show a bit of personality—people connect with people, not just keywords. And yes, while SEO is important, it’s the emotional pull that gets them to stay, click, or convert. Write like you’re talking to a friend who needs what you’re offering. That’s where the magic happens. 🙂

Sometimes the crowd knows you’re just on stage telling jokes without them in mind. It brings out the heckler in people. One of the worst hecklers I had was a girlfriend at the time. Five minutes into my set and I hadn’t produced one laugh. I should’ve ditched the jokes and started connecting with people. But I kept going. At some point, I see my girlfriend in the audience reach into her purse for what I thought was going to be a phone. She pulls out her birth control and slams a pill with a shot of tequila. I was bombing so badly I reminded her not to make another one of me. Easily the meanest heckle I’ve ever had. I've even had someone jump on stage and try to fight me. It didn't rattle me as much as that birth control pill.

The best way is to find out my audience pain. What keeps them awake at night? If I can research that, then I'll definitely make the copy emotionally-rich

For me, it's all about speaking to people like they’re friends. When you understand their struggles and tell stories that feel real, the connection becomes so much stronger. It’s not just about the right words; it’s about making them feel understood.

SEO copy should feel human, not robotic. I focus on emotion first, keywords second. Instead of stuffing keywords, I weave them naturally into engaging, relatable content. Storytelling makes it stick—a personal experience helps readers connect. Actionability is key—practical takeaways keep them hooked. And I always invite engagement with a question or insight. When SEO meets real connection, it ranks higher—not just on Google, but in people’s minds. Because at the end of the day, content that resonates is content that wins.

To make copy emotionally resonant, use sensory language to create vivid experiences, mirror your audience's emotions to build trust, and incorporate power words that evoke strong feelings. Understanding their pain points and aspirations allows you to craft messages that feel personal and compelling. Storytelling adds depth, making your audience feel seen, while a clear call to action encourages engagement. By blending these elements, you create copy that not only ranks well but also truly connects with your audience.

This is like crafting the perfect salad - one that’s bold, surprising, and satisfying. It's about mixing flavors that speak to the soul: sweet moments of triumph, bitter challenges, and sour uncomfortable truths we often try to avoid. Our readers are human beings with doubts, frustrations, and dreams. They're looking for answers, but more importantly, they want to feel understood. Talk about fears and hopes. The sleepless nights wondering if you’ll ever get it right. And about beautiful stubborn hope. Don’t be afraid to get real and share the messy parts. Because that’s what resonates: honesty, humanity, and resilience. SEO success isn’t just about ranking higher, it also about connecting deeper.
