The Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, may Allah support him, approved the symbol of the Saudi riyal on 21/08/1446H, corresponding to 20/02/2025. The symbol represents the sovereign national emblem of the currency of Saudi Arabia. This historic step aims to strengthen the identity of the national currency.​​​
This decision contributes to promoting Saudi Arabia’s financial identity at the domestic, regional, and international levels and encourages cultural affiliation. It also highlights the status of the Saudi riyal, boosting confidence in it and positioning Saudi Arabia among the world’s major​ economies and the G20.

The national currency symbol, designed by the Saudi Central Bank according to the highest technical standards, embodies Saudi Arabia’s rich culture and heritage. The symbol bears the name of the national currency, “Riyal,” with a design inspired by the aesthetics of Arabic calligraphy, making it suitable for use in referring to the Saudi riyal in all financial and commercial transactions.
