Allotment Drams / Jura Rum Cask Finish & Ardbeg Scorch (Committee Edition)

We have two more episodes from our allotment dram series for you and both feature new whiskies to the market. First, Matt takes a look at the Jura Rum Cask Finish. This is the third bottling in the Cask Editions series from the island distillery and has seen the whisky matured in ex-rum casks sourced from the Caribbean. Watch to find out more about the release and then discover Matt's thoughts and tasting notes.

Then on his next visit to the plot Matt talks about the Ardbeg Scorch. This is the Committee Edition that is released at the natural cask strength. The release is this year's release for the Islay distillery's annual Feis Ile bottling. Sadly it is already all sold out but Matt wanted to review it anyway. Watch to discover more about the whisky and his thoughts and tasting notes.

Review / Jura Rum Cask Finish

This single malt whisky is the third bottling in the Cask Editions series from the Hedbridean island distillery of Jura. The Jura Rum Cask Finish has been created by Gregg Glass, the Whisky Maker & Blender at brand owner Whyte & Mackay, and has seen the spirit first matured in American white oak ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to ex-Caribbean rum casks for a finishing period. It is presented with tropical themed packaging to reflect the cask influence. The Jura Rum Cask Finish is bottled at 40% ABV and will initially be exclusively available in a one litre format in UK supermarkets. The price will be £45. A 70cl bottle will also be released to other markets later in 2021.

Review - Jura Winter Edition

The Winter Edition is a new single malt that is the second release in the Cask Editions Series from Jura. The series highlights the role of different casks on a whisky during maturation and this bottling follows on from the Red Wine Cask release from earlier in the year. The Winter Edition has been matured in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels before being finished in Spanish ex-sherry casks. It has been created by Gregg Glass and the team of whisky makers at parent company Whyte & Mackay. The Jura Winter Edition is bottled at 40% ABV and will be available in the UK, exclusively at supermarket Tesco to begin with. A one litre bottle will cost £44.

Review - Jura 18 years old

This whisky forms part of the core range from the island distillery of Jura. The range was revamped in 2018 and this 18 years old is joined by other age statements at 10, 12 and 21 years old plus three other 'no age statement' expressions - the French Oak, Journey and Seven Wood. The whiskies involved in this 18 years old have followed two different paths - regular unpeated spirit has matured in ex-bourbon casks before a period of finishing in ex-red wine barriques sourced from Bordeaux in France, while rarer peated spirit (which is only made at the distillery for one month each year) has been matured solely in ex-bourbon casks. The two pockets of stock have then been married together to produce the final whisky.
