Select multiple blocks

You can select multiple blocks in List View by taking the following actions:

  1. Open List View by clicking the three horizontal lines icon in the top left of the editor.
  2. Click on the first block.
  3. Hold the shift key on your keyboard and click on the last block. This will select all blocks between the first and last block.

Uses of List View

List View has several useful benefits:

  • You can view the exact order and structure of every block on the page, which is especially helpful if you have a page with a lot of content.
  • You can select blocks that have other blocks nested inside them, such as each individual column inside of a Columns block.
  • You can click and drag blocks to move them to a different part of the page. Learn more about moving blocks.
  • You can click the ellipses (three dots) next to any block in List View and:
    • Copy the block.
    • Create a duplicate of the block.
    • Insert a new block before or after the selected block.
    • Copy the block’s styles.
    • Group the block.
    • Lock the block from being edited.
    • Create a pattern block out of the selected block.
    • Rename the block.
    • Move the block to a new part of the page.
    • Edit the block as HTML.
    • Delete the block.
    • Hide the block from specific devices or omit it from published content.

Hide blocks on specific devices

You can hide blocks on specific devices — desktop, tablet, or mobile — directly from List View. Hidden blocks stay in the editor and appear in List View with indicators showing which devices the block is hidden on. Visitors on the hidden device do not see the block on your published page.

To hide a block on a specific device, follow these steps:

  1. Open List View by clicking the three horizontal lines icon at the top left of the editor.
  2. Click the ⋮ (three-dot menu) next to the block you want to hide.
  3. Select the Hide option.

  1. In the “Hide block” dialog, check the box next to the devices where you want to hide the block: “Hide on Desktop”, “Hide on Tablet”, or “Hide on Mobile”.
The Hide block settings screen with check boxes for each viewport option and a cancel or apply option at the bottom.
  1. Click the Apply button. The block now shows a visibility indicator in List View.

To remove a block from your published page on all devices, check “Omit from published content” in the “Hide block” dialog. This removes the block from the front end entirely — it does not appear in the page source.

To show a hidden block again, follow these steps:

  1. Open List View. Hidden blocks will show an icon of an eye with a cross through it next to the block name.
  2. Click the ⋮ (three-dot menu) next to the hidden block.
  3. Click Show to open the dialog and uncheck the device options.
  4. Click the Apply button.

Clean up your blocks

When working with demo content added by your theme or using block patterns, you may have inadvertently ended up with a tangled mess of blocks you don’t need. This can result in display issues on your site, especially when working with layout blocks like the Columns block, Group block, or the Layout Grid block.

You can use List View to clean up the structure of your blocks, making sure you only have the blocks you need and nothing extra:

  1. First, open List View by clicking the icon that looks like three horizontal lines above each other at the top left of the editor.
  2. View your list of blocks on the page to see if you can identify the block or blocks that may be causing issues.
  3. Click the ellipses (three dots) next to any block and choose the Delete option to remove that block.
    • If a block has several blocks nested within it, deleting that block will also remove the nested blocks. First, move any blocks out from under that block before deleting the parent block.
