- When skeuomorphism, that design style that tried to mimic actual objects was huge about 10 years ago, gradients were a key ingredient. When the concept of fast downloads took hold skeuomorphism was replaced by a minimalistic flat design style system that used flat colors and few, if any, gradients. Over the past couple of years, gradients have been creeping back into the UX design simply because they added a bit of style to elements on the page and can draw the user's attention to a particular piece of content on a screen. So let's take a look at where gradients can be used in XD, and to get yourself started, open the Gradient.xd file in your chapter download.
