Nov 21, 1976

I am often asked when did I start sewing. I felt like I have been sewing forever so I really did not have an answer for them. Most times I would just say I was 14 years old. Turns out I was right. Sister Gladys O Christian was a close friend of my mother's. She was at least 20 to 25 years older than my mother so we treated her like a grandmother. She probably was the one who got my mother to teach me to sew. She visited us just about everyday. I remember making a yellow pant suit. When I finished I proudly show it to her and she inspected each and every seam and then she had me model it for her. It fit great and I really loved that suit. She told me that I did a very good job. The next day she came to the house with a book I was not at home at the time but she left it for me. Inside she wrote To Lavon From Sister Gladys O Christian November 21, 1976. I had completely forgot that until I found this book again. I remember going to her apartment in the senior building and ...

Winter Jacket

I need a winter coat. I have been talking about a winter jacket for a while and Last night during Project Runway I laid out my pattern for my coat. I chose this pattern because 1. it is easy and 2 the adjustment that needed to be made would be easy. This is what I did; to the jacket front and jacket back pattern pieces I added 1 inch to the bust line; 1.5 inches to the waistline;2.25 inches to the hip; finally 7 inches to the jacket length. Then I added 1 inch to the sleeve width. Add 3 inches to the sleeve length. If I need to make any additional adjustments as I go along I will just notate them in my project notebook. I have some other wool fabric that need to be used so this jacket pattern will work for those projects as well. Once this is completed I hope I love this jacket so I can make plenty more. The fabric is chocolate brown. The texture is like crepe fabric and it does feel pretty good for a coat. This is a wool Crepe fabric but I will have to put lining in it. Since the pa...

Lets change the subject for a minute.

I know I have not been blogging everyday. I also realize that I was to only blog about crafting and sewing but today I have something different that is on my mind. I work at a hospital,in the ENT pediatrics scheduling room. All day long I listen to parents make appointments for their children only to not arrive for the appointment for a variety of reasons, some good reasons, some very, very lame. For all my complaining about the job it is the easiest and least stressful job I have ever had until yesterday. There are upcoming layoff due to the budget cuts that need to be made. The first round of budget cuts in our area did not have any layoff because one of our doctor left our practice to set up his own in Florida, somewhere in the Keys. This second round of budget cuts will result in some layoffs. First we are told this will not effect us then we are told get your resume together. The three of us in this scheduling department are basically in jeopardy of losing our employment....

piece by piece

Last night after going to deliver the last of Avon for this campaign and visiting father in law who was on so much pain meds that I doubt he will remember that I was there, I went through my bag of scrap fabric. This bag is a cargo bag I got while driving as a courier. It stands about 4 ft high when filled. As I started going through it all the memories of what was created with the fabric came pouring back into my mind. The V- neck sleeveless shirt that I just completed. I could not for the life of me explain why I did not look here when I needed fabric to correct the error in cutting our the necktie. So many T-shirts. So many skirts, pants and things that just did not work, fit or look right. Gifts for new born children, barbie doll clothes that the little designers had to create with my help. Gifts for friends and family. After about 45 minutes I put them all back in the bag. I am thinking of a quilt, a crazy quilt because none of these fabric go together but it should be ...

Art isn't easy

Art isn't easy is a line in the song from a musical " Sunday in the park with George". Bernadette Peters was in the play which is why I watched it. The title of the song is Putting it together. This has be redone by several people. Barbara Streisand 1985 Broadway CD and this was one of the songs on it. These are not completely her words I changed some of them so it goes with the designing and sewing that you see on project runway. In fact this should be the song paying in the background when ever they put a compilation of all the project runway season together. Like a highlight film. Art isn't easy. even when your hot creating art is easy financing it is not a vision's just a vision if it's only in your head if no one gets to see it, it's as good as dead it has to come to life stitch by stitch putting it together piece by piece only way to make a work of art every moment makes a contribution every little detail play a part having a just a vision's no s...

Project Runway.

There are so many sites that and explain things so much better than I can. I have been reading the blogs daily so I actually forgot about the show this week. I was determined to get all the new Avon books to my customers. The ladys at the Senior Citizens building, the young girls at the Sheetz, front desk people at the YMCA ( while there I finally set up an appointment with a personal trainer!)4 customers individual house, and the ladies at the Dots store in the mall. I left the house at 7:30 and made it back home by 9:40. Hubby not to happy about that. He said he would prefer for me to come home early when I am by myself. I just thought one UFP complete. All Avon books distributed early enough to give customers 10 days to look the store and place an order. So I watched the rerun of Project Runway at 12:00. Click here for a great behind the scenes take on the show. Dont forget blogging Project Runway ! While watching the show I worked on this month challenge . I am not very ...

Project runway was started its new season!

I found a most wonderful blog http://bloggingprojectrunway.blogspot.com/. It is conforting to know that I am not the only one who think about this show daily. This is the best resource I have found in connection with Project runway. It was not advertised very much but I also have not been watching much TV lately. I have been trying to organize a sewing room, trying to complete project that have been abandoned, trying to complete 3 dresses for an upcoming weekend away, trying not to lose my mind. I gave up on the mind part. I think I left it in the sewing room but eventually it will show up. Project runway as given me one evening a week that is all about me. I don't care who you are just do not bother me. Proof of this was when Wednesday night when I took the remote from Todd and changed bravo channel just the set up the reminder. When he saw what the program was he just got up and went to bed. Cool with me as long as I get to watch my show its all good!

project runway blogging

Since a need a new distraction I started reading and searching for new blogs and found this. The offical blog for the project runway fan site. I also was able to get Sweet P blog. I really liked her on the show and look forward to reading what she is doing now. I know no one is really interested in this but oh well it keep my mind from imploding.

Christian wins Project Runway.

I watched the show and just fell in love with jillian collection and it should have been the winner hands down. I love all of her looks. Romi, Why was he even there? Chris freaked the judges out with the human hair trim on some of his garments. Romi needs to discover color. I did like the weave pattern on some of the clothing. Christian the little boy I loved to hate. Won. He has great talent and everything was impressive. Congrats to him the youngest winner of the contest and the winner of the People choice. That should give him enough money to start his business. The 1st thing on the list should be the studio he works in. Get a fierce one! I will keep watching for you!

Good bye Sweet pea!

I really felt sorry for Sweet Pea. 2 people were to be eliminate but she was the only one to me that is worst than being the first person eliminated. She smiled bravely through it all but that had to be horrible feeling. The only one of the 5 not worthy of Bryant Park! I really want Chris to win because I am sick of Rami! It will be and interesting contest between the two of them. Looking forward to it.
