Great news! The amended ESF+ programme, European Funds for Social Development 2021–2027, will enable financing a project on deinstitutionalising foster care for Ukrainian children in Poland. Poland will start relocating children from four large-scale Ukrainian orphanages placed in Poland to 20 smaller, more family-like homes. This is an important step to a longer-term solution for these children. #EUFunds

The most inspiring two days in Warsaw with European Child Guarantee Coordinators under the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union! Yesterday morning I had the pleasure of meeting Monika Sikora and Piotr Krasuski to formally hand over the amended decision for the ESF+ programme European Funds for Social Development 2021–2027. The amendment reflects the outcomes of the mid-term review and introduces important updates, including support for the deinstitutionalisation of foster care for Ukrainian children. This change will allow children to be relocated from orphanages to smaller, more family-like homes. I want to warmly thank the Polish presidency of the Council of the European Union and the City of Warsaw for hosting the annual meeting of Child Guarantee Coordinators. We have been discussing provision of early childhood education and care, inclusive education, and school-based activities for children in need. Colleagues from all over EU share good practices, report on the progress achieved, and discuss how to overcome challenges. Among others, an impressive presentation by Polish Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy on recent achievements in expanding provision of childcare while reducing the costs (in some counties by 90%!). Congratulations to Aleksandra Gajewska and her team, led by Tomasz Pactwa for the amazing work you are doing in addressing the needs of the children across Poland 🇵🇱! Inspirational talk by Prof. Paul Leseman showing that childcare can be organised in various ways, also by private providers – as long as there is a commitment to public values. The meeting was accompanied by a study walk in Praga district - what a commitment and dedication of service providers! Even though the EU is taking strong steps to drive digital transformation, there is still a long way to go: 🔹Deployment of fibre and 5G stand-alone networks are still progressing slower than expected 🔹The adoption of key technologies like AI, cloud and data analytics in small and medium enterprises is also facing some challenges to achieve the goal of 75% uptake by 2030 🔹Digital skills remain an ongoing concern, with just over half of the EU population having basic digital skills and the shortage of ICT specialists persisting 🔹Digitalisation of public services in the EU is advancing steadily and effectively to 100%, however a substantial portion of governmental digital infrastructure continues to depend on service providers outside the EU At the same time, together with the 27 EU countries we are actively working towards technological sovereignty through several actions, including: 🔹 National roadmaps, which outline 2 000 measures, for a total 288.6 billion euros, to advance the digital transformation 🔹 EU funding opportunities to boost innovation, such as InvestAI, Digital Europe and CEF Digital 🔹 A growing network of EU supercomputers 🔹 Legislation to ensure fair digital markets – DMA – and safer online environments for everyone – DSA 🔹The AI Continent Action plan 🔹Simplification of processes And more is still to come!
