Review - Tullamore DEW Phoenix
The Phoenix is a new cask strength whiskey that is a blend of pot still, single malt and grain whiskeys. It has a high percentage of ex-sherry cask maturation within the blend and this has then seen a finishing period in virgin American oak casks. The Phoenix was launched during the Summer to celebrate the second anniversary of the new distillery at Tullamore, which began production in August 2014.

The Glenfiddich Experimental Series is a new permanent range of single malts from Scotland's most famous distillery and it kicks off with two expressions – the IPA Experiment and Project XX. Both of the new whiskies have been created by Brian Kinsman, the Glenfiddich Malt Master, who continues to work on forthcoming additions. the series is designed to highlight the continual experimentation and innovation that Glenfiddich has undertaken since its foundation in 1887.

Review - Tullamore DEW 14 years old & 18 years old
These two new whiskeys are the latest to join the range of popular Irish brand Tullamore DEW. They are limited editions and single malts. Both the 14 years old and 18 years old expressions have undergone a rare cask combination for maturation - they have been predominantly matured in ex-bourbon casks before being transferred to a mix of ex-Oloroso sherry butts, ex-Port pipes and ex-Madeira drums. They were launched in tandem at the lavish Harrods department store in central London in mid-August.

Review - Ailsa Bay
Ailsa Bay is a new peated single malt whisky from the Lowland distillery of the same name. The distillery is owned by William Grant & Sons and is the first ever official release from there. The whisky is a combination of liquids that have been matured in four different types of cask - refill American oak, first fill bourbon, new oak and Baby Bourbon casks previously used by William Grant's Hudson distillery in New York. These casks have been selected and by Brian Kinsman, the Master Blender for William Grant. The contemporary packaging features a graphic map of the bay and a tall heavy glass bottle complete with a stopper made from Ailsa Craig granite.

Review - Ghosted Reserve
The Ghosted Reserve is the latest limited edition bottling in the Rare Cask Reserves series, which is released by William Grant & Sons. It is a blended malt. This term refers to a whisky that is made from two or more single malts blended together. In this case, there are just two malts included and both are very rare as they come from the Inverleven and Ladyburn 'ghost' distilleries, which have been closed for a significant length of time. The Ghosted Reserve has been created by Brian Kinsman, the Master Blender at William Grant & Sons.

Review - Kininvie 23 years old (Batch 3)
This whisky is the latest release from the little known Speyside single malt distillery of Kininvie (pronounced kin-inn-vee). The first whisky using the Kininvie name was released in 2013 and this batch will arrive in selected markets in limited numbers shortly. This 23 years old expression sits alongside a 17 years old bottling, which is exclusive for the travel retail sector. Kininvie whisky has quickly gained a cult following due to its rarity and we were intrigued to try the Batch 3 at a recent event, as we had never sampled anything from the distillery before.

New release - Girvan 25 years old
William Grant & Sons, the owners of the Girvan grain distillery, has announced a new range of single grain whiskies that will bear the distillery's name. The Girvan Patent Still range was launched in London back in October with a 25 years old expression - this was a 500-bottle batch that appeared as a UK exclusive in selected specialist retailers. It is the company's first ever single grain whisky release and marks the 50th anniversary of the innovative column still being installed at Girvan in 1963.

New release - Balvenie Tun 1401 (Batch #8)
The latest whisky in Balvenie's highly acclaimed Tun 1401 series has arrived. The series has won many plaudits across the globe, with different batches being released exclusively in different markets including the UK, Europe, the USA and travel retail. Each batch is created by the legendary Malt Master David Stewart, a veteran of over 50 years at Balvenie. After selecting the casks, he puts them together in a huge oak vessel called a tun (in this case Tun No. 1401) and the different whiskies marry together over time. This process takes roughly three months.

New release - Balvenie Single Barrel 12 years old
News of a new Balvenie release always gets the whisky blogosphere and consumers excited, and the news of this latest expression is no different. The Balvenie Single Barrel 12 years old has just hit the shelves in the UK market and will sit alongside the popular core range of Balvenie single malts. A series of single first fill ex-bourbon casks have been hand selected by Balvenie's legendary Malt Master David Stewart for this release, and each cask will be bottled one at a time.

New release - Glenfiddich 15 years old 'Distillery Edition'
OK, before anyone contacts us - we realise that this Distillery Edition is not technically a 'new release' as it was first available in this form about two years ago. However we have named it as such, as the limited edition expression of the popular 15 years old was formerly restricted to the shop at the Glenfiddich distillery and selected travel retail markets. It has now been released to a wider audience for the first time and is set to wow whisky drinkers the world over.
